How does planning a trip with Berridge Travel Company work?

It starts with getting to know you.
We’ll talk about how you like to travel, what interests you, where you’ve travelled before, what you’re hoping to experience and what would make this journey truly memorable.
From there, we’ll thoughtfully curate the journey around you – from destinations and accommodations to experiences and the way everything connects.
There are no off-the-shelf Berridge trips.

Some travellers come to us with a particular country, lodge or experience already in mind. Others simply know they want to go on safari, play golf in South Africa or finally experience Africa.
Both are great starting points.
Part of our role is helping you understand what’s possible and determining which destinations and experiences best fit the journey you have in mind.

Earlier is generally better, particularly if you’re interested in highly sought-after safari camps, smaller properties or travelling during popular periods.

That doesn’t mean an extraordinary journey can’t come together with less notice.
If Africa is on your horizon, starting the conversation early simply gives us more possibilities to work with.
There isn’t one ideal length.
It depends on where you’re going, how much you’d like to experience and how quickly you like to travel.
We’d rather create a journey with the right rhythm than fit as many destinations as possible into a particular number of days.

How much does a Berridge journey cost?

Because every journey is individually curated, there isn’t a standard price.
The investment can vary significantly depending on your destinations, duration, accommodation style, season, transportation and experiences.
Budget is simply another part of the conversation.
Understanding what you’re comfortable investing allows us to recommend options that make sense for you and focus on creating the right journey.
Because we don’t sell fixed packages.
The itineraries and experiences throughout our website are designed to inspire rather than prescribe exactly where you should stay, how long you should travel or what your journey should include.
Once we understand what you’re looking for, we’ll create an itinerary and provide pricing based on the journey designed specifically for you.
We specialize in thoughtfully curated, high-quality African travel, but luxury doesn’t always mean choosing the most expensive room or the most elaborate experience.
Sometimes it’s a remarkable lodge. Sometimes it’s a private guide. Sometimes it’s access to somewhere extraordinary.
And sometimes it’s simply knowing every detail has been taken care of.
We’ll prioritize the elements that matter most to you.

I've never been on safari. Where should I start?

That’s one of our favourite conversations to have.
There isn’t one safari that’s right for everyone.
South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Uganda and Rwanda all offer different landscapes, wildlife and styles of experience.
We’ll consider what you’re hoping to see, how adventurous you’d like the experience to feel, the style of accommodation you prefer and what else you’d like to include in your journey.

The Big Five can be found in several destinations we work with, and certain safari regions offer particularly strong opportunities to see them.
But wildlife is wild.
No responsible safari operator can guarantee a particular sighting.
And that’s part of what makes each encounter so remarkable.
Yes.
If experiencing the Great Migration is a priority, we’ll consider it when determining the timing and location of your Tanzania or Kenya journey.
The migration is a natural, continuously moving wildlife event influenced by seasonal conditions, so it can never be guaranteed in one particular place at one particular time.
We’ll thoughtfully plan around the strongest opportunities while remembering that nature ultimately sets the schedule.
Not at all.
Depending on the destination and property, safari can include walking, boating, mokoro excursions, conservation experiences, night drives and other ways of experiencing the wilderness.

How do we get from Canada to Africa?

The best routing will depend on where your journey begins and ends, your Canadian departure city, travel dates and airline availability.
We’ll help you understand how your international flights fit into the larger journey so the route makes sense from beginning to end.

The important part is that you shouldn’t have to figure out how all the pieces connect.

Some of Africa’s most remote safari areas are most practically reached by light aircraft, and the flight itself can become a memorable part of the journey.
Aircraft types and baggage requirements can vary, so we’ll make sure you know what to expect before you travel.
Depending on your itinerary, private transfers and arrival assistance can be arranged so you know exactly where to go and what happens next.

Do I need a visa to travel to Africa?

Visa and entry requirements vary by destination, nationality and the circumstances of your trip, and requirements can change.

We’ll help identify what you need to consider for your particular itinerary and direct you to the appropriate official resources so you can verify the most current requirements before travelling.

Passport requirements differ between destinations and may include minimum validity periods and blank-page requirements.

We’ll flag the requirements relevant to your itinerary, but you should always verify current entry requirements through official government sources before departure.

Health recommendations and requirements depend on your destinations, itinerary and individual circumstances.

We recommend speaking with an appropriate healthcare professional or travel-health clinic well before departure and consulting current official Canadian travel-health guidance for the destinations you’ll be visiting.

Comprehensive travel insurance is an important consideration for any international journey.

Coverage can differ considerably, so it’s important to understand what your policy includes and choose coverage appropriate for your circumstances and the trip you’re taking.

We’ll also make you aware of any insurance requirements associated with your booking.

What you’ll need depends on your destinations, season, activities and the transportation used throughout your journey.
Before departure, we’ll provide guidance relevant to your particular trip rather than expecting you to work from a generic safari packing list.
Safari is generally relaxed.
Comfortable, practical clothing tends to matter more than dressing formally, although certain lodges, restaurants or other parts of your journey may call for something different.

We’ll let you know what makes sense for the journey we’ve created.

Will we have all of our travel details before we leave?

Yes.
Before departure, you’ll receive the important information you need for your journey, including itinerary details, accommodations, transfers and other relevant arrangements.
You should know where you need to be without feeling like you have to manage the trip yourself.

Where appropriate, yes.

Knowledgeable local guides, trackers and specialists can add the context and expertise that transform an experience.

The right guide isn’t simply someone who shows you where to go.

They’re part of how you understand where you are.

Travel occasionally has other plans.

Flights change. Weather changes. Nature changes.
If something affects your journey, the appropriate travel partners will work to help navigate the situation and determine the next steps.
