From the crater rim, the land falls away into an immense volcanic caldera.
Then you descend.

Nearby Olduvai – also known as Oldupai – connects the journey to some of the most significant discoveries in the study of early human history.

The name Serengeti comes from a Maasai expression often translated as “endless plains.”
Once you’re here, it’s easy to understand why.
Grasslands stretch toward the horizon, supporting an extraordinary ecosystem of predators, prey and seasonal movement.

Tarangire feels different from the Serengeti almost immediately.
Ancient baobab trees rise from the landscape, their enormous trunks creating one of northern Tanzania’s most distinctive safari settings.
The Tarangire River brings life through the dry country, drawing wildlife toward an important source of water.
Elephants are particularly associated with this landscape, moving beneath trees that seem almost as remarkable as the animals themselves.
